Paris | Places to Eat, Snack, and Hangout: Part 2

We have compiled an updated list of our favorite places now that a  year has passed (crazy). We also moved to Saint-Germain which has given us the opportunity to explore this area more as well as other areas in Paris. We have included everything from bars to restaurants to bookstores that we have discovered over these past few months. Enjoy!

Bars

Le Depanneur (27 Rue Pierre Fontaine 75009)–We stumbled upon this bar/restaurant duo while strolling through Pigalle and immediately fell in love with the vibes and decor. By day it’s a quiet place to grab a cappuccino if your in the Montmartre/Pigalle area, but by night it transforms into an upbeat bar full of Parisians of all ages. Both nights that we were there the music was amazing and so were the drinks (best to keep it simple as they are quite expensive).

Le Bar du Marché (75 Rue de Seine 75006)– This outdoor café/bar is packed every time we walk by. Its relaxed atmosphere attracts both locals and a few tourists who have managed to find Rue de Buci. This quaint street in the heart of Saint-Germain has many restaurants and bars to choose from but Le Bar du Marché seems to be everyone’s favorite. It’s the ideal place to grab a drink and people watch for hours.

Restaurants/Cafés

Nanashi (31 Rue de Paradis 75010)– This low-key asian fusion restaurant has everything a trendy “healthnut” would want these days: green juice and lots of green leaves. Having tried out both the 10th arrondissement and 3rd arr. locations, we found that the food and atmosphere in the 10th arr. was by far the best. We recommend the “cocktail du jour”-a fresh pressed juice mixed with vodka. For the food, the veggie spring rolls, soba, or the “don kara-age” were all mouthwatering. There are also plenty of bars surrounding Nanashi so stroll around once you’ve finished dinner.

La Belle Epoque (36 Rue des Petits Champs 75002)– We just happened to stumble upon this restaurant while exploring the Palais Royal area. We decided to go that same night but didn’t book a reservation and went a little earlier than normal (around 19h30). It was empty but the host told us he could barely squeeze us in. By 20h30 the place was overflowing with all types of people. The food is traditional French brasserie cuisine but with a luxury feel. The decor is modern and swanky while still remaining extremely Parisian.

13-A Baker’s Dozen (16 Rue des Saints-Pères 75006)– Trieze is a perfect fall café nuzzled away in the heart of Saint-Germain. It is located at the end of what looks like an average Parisian passage way but opens up to the cozy restaurant. The owner greets you as soon as you walk in the door with a giant smile and a “Hey, how are you cutie?” no matter if you’re french or any other nationality. Laurel, the owner, is originally from the southern United States so the menu consists of dishes from the deep south. We have visited Trieze a few times, but only for a tea and a slice of whatever cake or dessert they have that day. It can range from the most amazing carrot cake to a mouthwatering lemon cake. Each time we visited we were not disappointed.

Lily of the Valley (12 Rue Dupetit-Thouars 75003)– This small tea room is situated just off the Carreau du Temple in the Marais. At first glance, it seems to be just a small room with dainty, fairy-like decor, but the selection of tea is enormous. We had one look at the menu and couldn’t decide which type to have. They also had delicious pastries and cakes to choose from. We had the banana bread and carrot cake, both moist and full of flavor (something hard to find at some popular cafés). The tea did not disappoint either and we sat outside because the weather wasn’t so bad. Lily of the Valley can also get quite busy on weekends too, so be prepared .

Other

Ofr. Bookshop (20 Rue Dupetit-Thouars 75003)–Located just down the road from Lily of the Valley, Ofr. is a hidden gem full of magazines and books of all sorts. Peruse through the many stacks of fashion magazines or admire the amazing selection of independent, smaller magazines and books they have to offer. We came across a series of booklets they create called “Bon Voyage” and picked up the one about Los Angeles and knew immediately that we had to buy it. We flipped to the first page and there was a picture of Laguna Beach! Whether you have a specific book in mind or just browsing, Ofr. is the perfect place.
